Chelsea Senior Center Launches Wellness Hour Initiative
The Chelsea Senior Center is proud to introduce its latest initiative, the “Wellness Hour,” which officially launched on May 12. This program aims to provide seniors with a focus on mental health and well-being, featuring a different theme each month.
This Month’s Theme: Mindful Moments
For May, the theme was “Mindful Moments: Mental Health Awareness and Glitter Jar Making.” Participants engaged in various coping skills activities, including crafting Glitter Jars. These jars serve as calming tools during stressful times, promoting awareness about mental health challenges.
The Importance of Mental Wellness
“Healthy aging is not just about remaining physically active. Mental wellness plays a crucial role,” stated Jennifer Smith, Executive Director of the Chelsea Senior Center. “Our goal is to assure seniors that the Chelsea Senior Center is a welcoming space to combat loneliness and enhance cognitive health through creative and supportive activities.”
Monthly Themes and Activities
Facilitating the Wellness Hour each month are Chelsea Hospital’s Behavioral Health Navigators, Anna Weber and Kathryn Walz. The upcoming theme for June focuses on embracing diversity, ensuring that each session includes engaging activities and constructive discussions relevant to the month’s theme.
Community Support Services
Additionally, the Chelsea Senior Center is excited to offer the services of the City of Chelsea’s Community Social Worker, Emilee Fetters, who will be available on Mondays and Fridays for residents of the Chelsea School District. This support is valuable for seniors in navigating their resources and enhancing their quality of life.
A Vision for the Future
“Our vision is to become a one-stop activity center dedicated to serving our community’s seniors,” Smith emphasized. “We are constantly seeking to incorporate fresh ideas and solutions that resonate with our members’ needs.” Recently, the center launched a “Big Ideas” campaign, inviting members to submit their innovative suggestions.
Feedback and Strategic Planning
The response to the “Big Ideas” campaign has been overwhelmingly positive. The insights gathered will significantly influence the Chelsea Senior Center’s strategic planning over the next three to five years, creating a roadmap to enhance future programs and services.
