Leading the rankings is Delaware, where over 13% of the workforce is engaged in remote work. The state boasts one of the lowest internet costs and extensive access to high-speed internet. Moreover, Delaware ranks fifth in terms of home size, making it an ideal location for remote employees.
Other notable states that support remote work include Utah and Maryland. Utah features the lowest average retail electricity prices along with the largest homes in the U.S., while Maryland benefits from low internet costs and spacious residences as well.
On the other end of the spectrum, Alaska ranks as the least favorable state for remote work, characterized by a low percentage of potential remote workers and a poor work environment rating. Following Alaska, Montana and Wyoming also rank low, primarily due to high internet costs and limited access to reliable service.
“Research indicates that worker productivity levels are similar whether in office or remote settings,” noted Adam M. Lippert, Ph.D., an associate professor and director of graduate studies at the University of Colorado, Denver. “Employers seeking a competitive edge in attracting talent should strongly consider implementing remote, hybrid, and flexible workspace arrangements whenever feasible.”
