Position Overview
Senior Architectural Project Manager – Freelance or Part-Time (Remote)
Location: Remote (Preference for candidates based in or near NYC)
Commitment: Approximately 15–20 hours per week
Experience: 10+ years
About Permit Architects
Permit Architects is a notable firm located in New York City, specializing in assisting homeowners with the often-complex processes of co-op, condo, and NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) permit approvals for small residential renovations. Our mission focuses on simplifying the renovation journey for both clients and team members. It’s important to clarify that we are not a design firm, as our design services primarily address code compliance suggestions.
Role Description
We are on the lookout for a senior-level architectural professional to join our dynamic team on a freelance or part-time basis. This remote position offers flexible hours, allowing selected individuals to make a significant impact on the built environment of New York City without the demanding nature of full-time firm roles.
Key Responsibilities
The Senior Architectural Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing multiple small permit projects simultaneously, directly managing around 10+ ongoing projects. This role requires coordination with various staff members while keeping a close eye on deadlines. Additionally, the individual will serve as the primary contact for clients, guiding them through building management and DOB processes.
Research and Coordination
Another key aspect of this role involves providing accurate and technically sound responses to code-related inquiries, utilizing a strong familiarity with NYC Building Codes. The individual will also be expected to redline drawings and delegate tasks effectively to drafters, junior architects, and administrative staff. Addressing objections from building review architects and DOB examiners will also fall under their purview, showcasing their expertise in this intricate field.
Optional Site Inspections
For candidates based in New York City, conducting optional site visits to inspect renovations could further enhance the project oversight and quality assurance processes, presenting a unique opportunity to engage with projects on a deeper level.
Candidate Requirements
Ideal candidates will possess a degree in Architecture, along with 10+ years of professional architectural experience—experience in NYC is considered a significant asset. Strong knowledge of building codes, zoning regulations, and the renovation permitting process is essential. Candidates should also provide work samples of DOB or permit-related drawing sets and demonstrate proven skills in managing multiple project schedules effectively. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are paramount.
Compensation and Benefits
Our firm offers competitive compensation aligned with experience, alongside direct support and training from the founding partners. We prioritize flexible, remote work arrangements with a steady stream of predictable projects to ensure a fulfilling work-life balance.
Application Process
Interested candidates are encouraged to submit their resume, cover letter, and relevant work samples—including examples of DOB and permit drawings—to our hiring team. We look forward to your application and the possibility of you joining our innovative team to make a difference in NYC’s architectural landscape!
