Texas Tech University’s track and field teams achieved a remarkable feat by clinching both the men’s and women’s titles at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships held on Saturday. The women secured their championship with an impressive score of 127 points, while the men tallied 136 points, showcasing the university’s athletic prowess.

Over the span of three days of intense competition, Texas Tech maintained a strong presence with seven first-place finishes that contributed significantly to their overall score of 263 points. Sophomore Temitope Adeshina made headlines by winning the high jump event with a remarkable leap of 1.97 meters. This jump not only earned her the title but also set a new meet record and marked a personal best for the athlete.
On the men’s side, sophomore Bradford Jennings also excelled in the high jump, securing first place with a personal best of 2.22 meters. This outstanding performance places him in the top 10 nationally, making him the eighth-ranked high jumper in the country this weekend, and he becomes the fifth Red Raider in the men’s program to win this title, the first since 2017.

In the 10k meter race, sophomore Ernest Cheruiyot showcased his endurance by finishing first with an impressive time of 29:37.64. This victory marks a significant achievement, as he becomes only the third Red Raider to win the Big 12 10k, with the last win recorded by Kennedy Kithuka in 2014.

Senior Shelby Frank shone brightly at the championships by winning both the hammer and discus throw events. She achieved new personal bests with distances of 62.14 meters in the discus and 70.37 meters in the hammer throw. Frank’s hammer throw not only earned her the title but also set a new meet record, making her the first Texas Tech woman to capture this event at the conference meet.
